Our Story

Holy Spirit Anglican Church’s vision is to be a community of the living presence of Christ Jesus—a place where He can be encountered—marked by singular devotion to Him and openness to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit Anglican Church began its first worship service on June 6, 2004, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Cody Road in Mobile, Alabama. Following a season of prayer and discernment, the congregation was formed in response to growing unbiblical trends within the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, with a commitment to the authority of Scripture and historic Anglican faith and practice.

The Reverend Michael (Mike) A. Napoli was the founding rector (pictured below). Originally known as the Mobile Anglican Community, the church later adopted the name Holy Spirit Anglican Church. An early founding document expressed the church’s vision:

“To be a community of the living presence of Christ Jesus—a place where He can be encountered—marked by singular devotion to Him and openness to the leading of the Holy Spirit.”

The church was initially affiliated with the Anglican Province of America. In 2005, property was purchased on Leroy Stevens Road, and construction of the current church building began in 2008. The first worship service in the new building was held on March 15, 2009.

Father Napoli retired in 2008 and entered the presence of the Lord in September 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. His faithful ministry continues to bear fruit in the lives of many.

Holy Spirit Anglican Church joined the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) in early 2010 and became part of the Gulf Atlantic Diocese in 2011. The church has been blessed by the leadership of Bishop Alex Farmer and by the faithful service of its rectors: the Reverend Chris Goers (2009–2012), the Reverend Alan Armstrong (interim in 2009 and rector from 2013–2018), and the Reverend Frank Busbey (2018–2025).

Today (2026), Holy Spirit Anglican Church enters a new chapter of ministry under the leadership of the Reverend Monica Napoli Warren—daughter of our founding rector—and Deacon Charles (Dan) D. Thompson. Together, they carry forward the legacy of faith, service, and devotion that has shaped this congregation from its beginning, trusting in God’s continued guidance as we seek to proclaim the ancient Christian faith in our modern world.
